Ahmed is keen to foster social relations across various international communities. He is seeking to combine digital technologies with traditional techniques such as illustration and graphic design to evolve his career in visual design projects that make a difference.
Our app “Campus Connect” introduces a new form of credits for the students called Community Engagement Credits (CECs). It aims to incentivise student participation in university or student-organized charity events, social activities, and community service projects. By earning CECs, students can contribute to a more connected campus community while also developing valuable life skills by socialising. Accumulated CECs can be used to redeem exclusive rewards (and maybe even actual credits on your course!) and recognition on campus connect.
The initial stage of this project involved extensive brainstorming to identify key themes and areas of focus. These keywords helped to narrow down the scope of the project and identify potential research areas.
A comprehensive literature review was also conducted to explore existing research on unconscious bias in education. This involved examining academic articles, books, and reports to identify key findings and theories. The goal was to gain a deep understanding of the current state of knowledge in this field and identify potential gaps in the research.
Based on the literature review, several ideas for the project emerged. These included exploring the impact of unconscious bias on student outcomes, developing strategies to mitigate bias. Through discussions and analysis, these ideas were refined and prioritized to create a focused research agenda.
True education liberates the mind, it does not confine it with prejudice. We need to create environments where every student, regardless of background, feels empowered to reach their full potential. There is a need to prepare students to thrive in a diverse and global society. This app allows us to addressing unconscious bias in a more active and engaging way, rather than just making students more aware of unconscious bias. Campus Connect equips students with the skills and understanding necessary to navigate and succeed in an empathetic manner by incorporating and creating more diverse perspectives and inclusive learning environments.
The real benefit of an app such as Campus Connect is the ability to expand and connect students across different universities. This promotes socializing which in turn helps us fill the world with better people and mitigate unconscious bias together.
To showcase the idea better, the final design output for the project was a prototype of the app. This allows universities that are potential clients in the future to have a look at how the app would function. Here’s a video demo of the prototype showing how the app works. Or if you are up for it, you can play around with the app too!
