Hi I'm Shivangee.
I am an Industrial Designer with a passion for designing solutions for user's latent, emotional needs. My work is influenced by my experience and learning from internships, freelancing and the time spent at Loughborough University.
IGI
Inclusive Gaming Interface
IGI is an inclusive gaming equipment for gamers who are non-disabled and gamers with temporary arm injuries, mild arthritis on one hand, the loss of a single arm, stroke survivors, and those with spastic cerebral palsy (Spastic Hemiplegia, which affects one side of the body and Spastic Diplegia- which affects both legs).
IGI- A step towards inclusive gaming
Skynews (2023) stated that there are an estimated 492 million gamers worldwide. In the UK and the US, a third of gamers have some form of disability, which accounts for nearly double the 16% of disabled people in the general population. It entails the importance of gaming in the lives of especially those, who cannot leave their homes and hence, have fun and socialize most effectively over gaming with people online due to the stigma associated with physical appearances in society. It is an effort in the field of inclusive gaming, to enhance the gaming experience further by having a flexible, optimized gaming interface for gamers with or without certain disabilities.
One-handed ambidextrous, modular interface
The equipment has programmable keys with a scroll wheel and a thumb unit that consists of additional buttons with a trackball and a DPI button. The keys’ height increases with each row moving away from the palm, enhancing reachability.
IGI can be used by bothright and left-handed gamers. The thumb unit can be switched and attached from one side to another. Additionally, the scroll wheel unit can be flipped and attached.
Adjustable and ergonomic
The adjustability of the keyboard rows helps it accommodate hands of different sizes with short or long fingers. Users can adjust the length of the keyboard using the pin on the side (present on both sides of the equipment) and simply moving it forward by small increments.
Users are provided with a detachable palm cushion and two detachable wrist cushions, differing in length. These would help a gamer during long gaming sessions, with lesser discomfort on their palms and fewer interruptions mid-game.
Your game, your rules, your style.
Just like guns have skins in games, IGI Plus offers customizable versions. Here are some examples of customized versions along with the IGI Base version.

Design for manufacture
Exploded view The PCB of the adjustable keyboard rows would be connected to the main PCB via ribbon cables.
Analog optical switches, that would register different levels of input in the same motion. It would help gamers walk in-game when pressed slightly and run when pushed harder.
Prototyping and testing
Prototypes were made out of (from left to right) clay, foam, and PLA (3D printed) that tested functionality, ergonomics, usability, and adjustability
Initial user testing and interviews to gain insights and refine the concept
Further user testing after implementing phase 1 test results
